VBC (Huayi) Music Production Choir 

Saturday May 10, 2014 – 3:30-4:30pm, Exhibition Hall, Roundhouse

VBC (Huayi) Music Production Choir belongs to VBC Music Production, a professional company that produces concerts, music festivals, and recordings. In addition, the company also provides educational music programs and work/training opportunities. Collaborating with other organizations, Huayi (VBC) Choir has received grants from the province and the city of Vancouver to produce concerts in celebration of BC’s 150th and Vancouver’s 125th anniversaries. In 2010, the company produced a concert featuring Hong Yun Kong Hou Ensemble from China, as part of Vancouver International Harp Conference to promote cultural exchange between Canada and China. (Kong Hou is an ancient Chinese harp). In 2013, the choir collaborated with Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble to deliver a successful performance of “Yunnan Folk Song Suite”, a large-scale choral work with Chinese orchestra.

Jin Zhang – conductor

Zhang is the Music Director and Conductor of Vancouver Philharmonic Symphony Society, New Westminster Symphony Orchestra (since 1993), the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra (Intermediate), and the Artistic Director of VBC Music Production. As a composer, his compositions have been performed by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and numerous ensembles and choirs. His music is often heard on BBC, CBC and other networks. In 2006, he was featured by the Canadian Music Centre’s online initiative entitled “Composer Portraits – Influences of Many Musics”, which highlighted the contributions of Canadian composers from other countries. In 2010, he received Artistic Achievement Award given by Vancouver Chinese Culture Centre. Born in China, Zhang received music education at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, where he studied conducting in master classes with Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama and renowned conductor Seiji Ozawa.

温哥华华艺艺术中心合唱团

温哥华华艺艺术中心合唱团, 隶属於华艺艺术中心。作为一个专业的音乐制作中心,其活动主要包括组织不同形式的音乐会、音乐节,同时也提供与音乐有关的专业训练和工作实习机会。艺术中心拥有自己的合唱团,并且定期排练和演出。华艺艺术中心合唱团曾与其他团体合作,透过BC省政府和温哥华市政府的拨款,共同举办BC省150周年和温哥华125周年的庆典音乐会。在上海世博会期间,华艺合唱团参与了世博会的歌曲录音。为促进中加文化交流,华艺艺术中心於2010年举办了中国鸿韵箜篌乐团专场音乐会,为温哥华世界竖琴大会增添新色彩。2013年艺术中心合唱团与温哥华中华乐团,在温哥华小女皇剧院成功表演了大型声乐器乐套曲【云南歌汇】。

张进 – 艺术总监及指挥

张进出生于中国北京,现任新西敏市交响乐团,温哥华青年交响乐团,温哥华爱乐交响乐团音乐总监及指挥,华艺艺术中心艺术总监,加拿大华人音乐教师协会共同会长,云南省艺术学院文华学院客席教授。此外,他还指挥温哥华跨文化管弦乐团,并经常赴渥太华,蒙特列尔,维多利亚等加拿大其他城市和美国任客席指挥。近年,张进也常应邀前往中国大陆不同的城市指挥音乐会。

张进获得过众多团体的委约,并赢得加拿大国家艺术委员会的专款从事作曲。温哥华交响乐团,卡加利爱乐乐团,维多利亚交响乐团等都曾演奏其作品。他的作品曾在中国全国比赛中获奖。2002年,张进获新西敏市市长代表新西敏交响乐团授予对该团十年来的优秀指导奖。2006年被加拿大音乐中心选入对加拿大音乐有贡献的作曲家肖像专栏。2008年作品专辑【追溯】获加西音乐奖最佳器乐唱片提名。2010年,张进获得由温哥华中华文化中心颁发的艺术成就奖。2011年张进创作由加拿大移民部拨款赞助的委约作品,交响诗【来自金山的声音】,成为加拿大历史上第一个用交响乐形式,表述早期华人移民历史的华裔作曲家。张进被收录在由中国国家出版的(世界文化名人辞典)海外华人卷内。
